A young professional guitarist, Nick Montes has over a decade of performance and educational experience. Son of Legendary Drummer, Robert Montes (The Hues Corporation) Nick has been playing the guitar for almost 20 years. The San Francisco Native recently returned home to the Bay Area from Hollywood after an intense course of study at the highly-regarded and competitive Guitar Institute of Technology at Musician’s Institute. During his studies at MI, Nick had a unique opportunity to focus on music theory, performance, and composition under many professional studio session and touring musicians, including Scott Henderson, Carl Verheyen, Allen Hinds, Sid Jacobs, Keith Wyatt and Ross Bolton.

Prior to receiving a degree from the Musicians Institute, Nick was a student at Diablo Valley College. While there he was mentored by both Steve Sage and Kelly Back , two of the area’s most well known educators. As a performer, Nick has performed with and/or members of Tower of Power, Santana, Malo, Sly and the Family Stone, Booker T and the M.G.'s, John Lee Hooker Jr., Tortilla Soup, West Grand Blvd, Gokart Mozart, and the Kaye Bohler Band. He continues to perform and record in the Bay Area as a sideman and a soloist. During the day Nick can be found teaching in his Lafayette California studio, the Montes Music Academy.

"Great teacher! Throughout my son's high school years, Nick has been providing guitar lessons. With Nick's tutelage, my son has been accepted to UC Davis and CSU Stanislaus as a music major, and SDSU in CS with a minor in music. Nick has inspired and motivated my son to follow his dreams.  Thank you, Nick!"- Evelyn P.
